Race 1 Spring Series 2017 - Results
/The first race of our new Spring season was a lovely WInter's day with plenty of the well-known August winds. One boat took longer to cross the starting line than expected due to a mainsail shackle that turned out to be not quite connected to its sail - apparently the view from the top of the mast wasn't worth the climb - just joshin'. This resulted in a new benchmark for the season in terms of delay crossing the starting line, and according to One Mo' Time, all other boats are invited to exceed it. "We've never worked harder to come last!" said Cap'n Dunc.
It was a particular pleasure to welcome a new yacht to our fleet - a Bavaria 31 called "Sapphire", owned by Richard and Maria Watson - and they sailed a very creditable fourth in their first race with BPYC. Richard started out with BPYC as a crew member on One Mo' Time, then bought his own boat, and is already competitive.
In terms of results, Breva notched up another win, followed about three minutes later by Crooz and then just over a minute to Megisti Blue. In fact, the first four boats finished within just over four and a half minutes of each other, so an exciting race.
